Product Brief
This B2B/B2C mobile app empowers personal users to manage finances by keeping track of their paper and digital receipts.
For financial institution clients, the product digs below transactional data (like where customers are making purchases) and delivers SKU-level data in order to discover customer’s lifecycle stage, purchasing habits, and financial needs - all in order to offer relevant product offerings and personalized advice.
Goal
To increase engagement and have users upload 2 or more receipts to the platform with new Rewards feature.
Users
Financial institution customers
Small business owners
Requirements
Reward(s) display when user completes a trigger action
User can view list of accumulated and upcoming rewards
Constraints
White labelled web SDK and SPA app for an iframe that could be embedded into any commercial banking app (dimensions unknown).
Landscape analysis
Existing analytics data which uncovered that on average, users tended to upload no more than one receipt. The overall project explored other areas of the product as well that could improve user engagement (e.g. onboarding, upload experience, adding data to receipt details, search and filter).
For Rewards, we looked at popular games for inspiration on surfacing rewards on triggered action and modular dashboard designs that could adapt to various layouts. We also looked at educational apps and fitness trackers that also gamified their experiences.
UX
We documented a simple app map to make sure the overall platform would meet technical requirements for the SDK. For the Rewards screen, we mapped out a flow that covered first time users (display onboarding modal), consistent CTAs (upload a receipt), as well as rewards exploration.
We wanted users to understand the Rewards feature, know their progress standing, anticipate and strive to earn more rewards, and want to upload more and more receipts with product use. Our ideal design solution would achieve these goals while maintaining a joyful and white-label friendly visuals - so that commercial bank clients are able to immediately use existing UI and have it be a seamless integration into their app or to easily apply their own branding to it.
